Preliminary Examination (Prelims): The Gateway to Mains
The Preliminary Examination is your first and most competitive stage of the UPSC exam. It consists of two objective-type papers designed to test a candidates grasp'of both general knowledge and aptitude.
GS Paper 1
This paper tests your knowledge on a wide range of topics, includingCurrent Events, Environment, History, Geography, Polity, Economy, and General Science
CSAT Paper II
This paper tests aptitude, comprehension, logical reasoning, basic numeracy, and decision-making skills. A minimum score of 33% is required to pass.
Instructor
- Total Marks: 400 (200 for each paper).
- Only Paper I marks count towards the cut-off; Paper II is qualifying in nature.
- Marks are not counted in the final merit but are used to select candidates for Mains.
